For users who wish to use the site for research and educational purposes
|
The forest fields and facilities of the University of Tokyo Hokkaido Forest (UTHF) are available for research and educational activities. Please follow the procedures below to use the forest fields and facilities. Please note that depending on the content of your application, we may decline your request. We are also open to proposals for joint research, etc. Please contact us.

|
► Regardless of the purpose of use, a prior application (application for permission) is required. Please submit the relevant application form to the UTHF Office (General Affairs Team). See the bottom of this page for contact information.
► If you wish to use the accommodation facilities, please also submit the prescribed application form for accommodation. Please see the “Accommodations” section below for additional information.
► If you wish to use unpublished data, specimens, or samples from the UTHF, please read the “Bylaws on the use of data from the University of Tokyo Hokkaido Forest” or “Bylaws on the use of specimen/sample from the University of Tokyo Hokkaido Forest”, and submit the relevant application form together with the “Application for Use and Plan for Use” Form A.
► If you plan to use an UAV such as a drone, please carefully read and ensure that you fully understand the contents of the “Standard Manual (1)” of the Civil Aviation Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. Please submit “[Form F] Confirmation Form for UAV Users in the UTHF” with your application for use. A decision on whether the use of UAV will be allowed will be made after reviewing the application and confirmation form.
► The documents to be submitted vary depending on their purpose. Please download the forms from the “Documents to be submitted” section below.
► Please submit the application form by the 20th of the month prior to the date you wish to start using UTHF facilities. After reviewing your application, we will contact you to let you know whether your application has been successful. Please note that we cannot accept last-minute applications.
► Cooperation, guidance, and commentary by the UTHF staff are also available; please consult us after filling out the application form for use.
► If you are a student, please CC your supervisor when submitting the application form via email.

1. If you wish to use the UTHF for research purposes (including surveys,
observations, experiments, sample collection, etc. for academic
research, as well as students’ graduation theses, etc.) or educational
purposes (classes, practical training, exercises, experiential
learning, workshops, tours, etc.), please first submit a Research
Proposal (Form A1) or an Educational Proposal (Form A2).

2. Once the schedule and participants are confirmed, please submit the
Application Form (Form B) and the List of Participants for
Accommodation Application (Form C).
► These are not required if you only request data or specimen usage and
do not plan to visit our forest.

3. If you wish to use unpublished data, specimens, or samples (including seeds and seedlings), use an UAV, capturing vertebrates, bringing in chemical substances/organisms, etc.
► Please submit the appropriate application form, together with the Form A1 or A2

► Permission for use is granted annually. If you wish to continue using the UTHF beyond the current fiscal year, please submit a new application form for each fiscal year.
► If you plan to use the UTHF more than once during the fiscal year, please enter the period of use and the number of times you plan to use the UTHF in the “Date or Period of Use” field at the time of initial submission.
► Please be specific about what you will be doing in the “Details of Use” column.
► If you need to bring in living organisms (animals, plants, microorganisms, etc.), please explain the risks and countermeasures regarding their escape and spread. If bringing in an organism is unavoidable, please be sure to consult us at the time of application.
► If materials (measuring equipment, observation facilities, signs, stakes, etc.) are installed, please remove them responsibly at the end of the use.
► Users are responsible for the proper disposal of waste.
► Please note that, for safety reasons, entering the forest alone or at night is not permitted in principle.

■Students, graduate students, research students, and others from the University of Tokyo who have paid tuition fees and those who have not completed compulsory education are exempt from paying lodging fees.

■Heating fees shall apply to winter use from October 1 through April 30.
■Students, graduate students, research students, and others from the University of Tokyo who have paid tuition fees and those who have not completed compulsory education are exempt from miscellaneous expenses and heating fees.

For members of the public wishing to visit
|
The UTHF offers some of its facilities to the general public and we encourage you to take advantage of these. We also hold public events where visitors can tour the forest. Details of these events are posted on the homepage of the website.
|
|
|
► Use of the facilities is not permitted for profit-making events or events that contribute to the profit of a specific individual, corporation, or organization. Please note that this also applies to tours conducted by travel agencies and guided tours conducted by tour guides for a fee.
► Prior applications are required for groups (excluding private groups). For details, please refer to each page of the General Public Access section.
► The University of Tokyo is not responsible for accidents that may occur in the forest. Please take sufficient safety precautions before entering the forest.
► As a rule, private tours of the forest by the general public are not accepted. Please take advantage of other opportunities to visit the public facilities, such as public events.
