FOCUS-Asia Rules

Article 1 (Name and Administrative office)

The name of this organisation shall be FOCUS-Asia (Forest Culture Science in Asia). The administrative office for the execution of this organisation's activities shall be located at the Arboricultural Research Institute, Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences, The University of Tokyo (457 Kano, Minamiizu-cho, Kamo-gun, Shizuoka Prefecture).

Article 2 (Purpose)

The purpose of FOCUS-Asia is to advance research on forest culture in the Asian region by enabling numerous researchers to freely exchange and share information, thereby promoting the development of research related to forest culture. The term ‘forest culture’ as used by this organisation refers to the collective achievements arising from human interaction with the diverse resources and environments provided by forests to human society. Its scope is broad, encompassing not only food, clothing and shelter, but also science, technology, scholarship, art, education, morality, religion, politics and so on.

Article 3 (Membership)

Members of FOCUS-Asia shall be individuals who share an interest in the matters outlined in Article 2 of these rules and who endorse this organisation's objectives.

Article 4 (Activities)

To achieve the purpose outlined in Article 2 of these rules, FOCUS-Asia shall undertake the following activities:

  1. Convening research meetings
  2. Collaborative research
  3. Cooperation and exchange with other academic societies and related organisations
  4. Other activities necessary to achieve the objectives of this organisation

Article 5 (Officers)

The following officers shall be appointed for the operation of FOCUS-Asia.

  1. Chairman 1 person
  2. Vice-Chairman Several persons
  3. Secretariat Several persons
  4. Steering Committee Members Approximately 10 persons
