1st International Symposium of
Long-term Forest Monitoring Research in Asia

November 11-14, 2019

About the Symposium
We have the great pleasure to announce you that the College of Forestry, Hainan University will host the 1st International Symposium of Long-term Forest Monitoring Research in Asia, which will be held at Hainan University, Haikou, China on 11-14 Nov, 2019. The Symposium is jointly organized by the University of Tokyo Forests under the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Core-to-Core Program (B. Asia-Africa Science Platforms) “A research hub of long-term forest monitoring field centers on environmental changes and ecosystem responses: Collaborating for data, knowledge and young researchers”. It includes one and half-day symposium and post-symposium excursion to the long-term monitoring sites in climate, hydrology, and ecology.

Research Groups
The main theme of this symposium is the scientific discussion for long-term monitoring and ecosystem services in Asian University Forests. In the morning of Tuesday, November 12, the following three research group (RG) sessions will be held in parallel. New joint research proposals will be welcomed. The topics of the RG sessions are as follows:
RG 1: Water & Climate
· Water cycling and climate changes in Asian forests
· Long-term hydrological and meteorological data
· Ecosystem services associated with physical and chemical processes
RG 2: Ecosystem & Biodiversity
· Ecosystems and biodiversity in Asian forests
· Long-term biological and ecological data (flora &fauna, LTER, etc.)
· cosystem services associated with biological and ecological processes
RG 3: Sustainable Management
· Anthropogenic interventions in Asian forests
· Long-term geospatial and management data
· Ecosystem services associated with social, economic and cultural values

Registration Fee
Regular fee is RMB 2800/person and student fee is RMB 1400/person which include transportation, accommodation, meals, symposium, welcome reception and field excursion for Nov 11-14. If you only attend symposium program not field excursion, you should pay RMB 1400/person (student: KRW 700) which include transportation, accommodation, meals, symposium and welcome reception for Nov 11-12. For the symposium participants who do not overnight at Hainan University China-Japan Friendship Exchange Center, the registration fee is RMB 600/person.

October 20th, deadline for submission of abstracts
If you are presenting in the plenary session, RG sessions, and poster session, please send an abstract before October 20, 2019.
· An abstract is compulsory for all presenters and each abstract must not exceed 150 words. The abstract attached with this announcement
· Please submit the abstract file to the symposium secretariat .
· Please confirm an abstract template

Poster Presentation Guidelines
For all the poster presenters, please prepare the poster in A0 size in portrait. Each author has time for 3-min lightning oral presentation with PPT slides. Please prepare the PPT file and bring with USB stick. Only student posters are qualified for the best poster award.
