The 8th Symposium of Asian University Forest Consortium

About the Symposium
We have the great pleasure to announce you that the University Forests of Seoul National University (SNU) will host the 8th SAUFC Symposium on the scientific discussion for long-term monitoring and ecosystem services in Asian University Forests, which will be held at Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea on 22-26 Oct, 2018. The Symposium is jointly organized by the University of Tokyo (UTokyo) Forests under the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Core-to-Core Program (B. Asia-Africa Science Platforms) “Developing a network of long-term research field stations to monitor environmental changes and ecosystem responses in Asian forests”. It includes one and half-day symposium and post-symposium excursion to the long-term monitoring sites in climate, hydrology, and ecology.

Research Groups
The main theme of this symposium is the scientific discussion for long-term monitoring and ecosystem services in Asian University Forests. On the 23rd of October in the morning, the following three research group (RG) sessions will be held in parallel. The topics of the RG sessions are as follows:
RG 1: Water & Climate
· Water cycling and climate changes in Asian forests
· Long-term hydrological and meteorological data
· Ecosystem services associated with physical and chemical processes
RG 2: Ecosystem
· Ecosystems and biodiversity in Asian forests
· Long-term biological and ecological data (flora &fauna, LTER, etc.)
· Ecosystem services associated with biological and ecological processes
RG 3: Management
· Anthropogenic interventions in Asian forests
· Long-term geospatial and management data
· Ecosystem services associated with social, economic and cultural values

Registration Fee
Regular fee is KRW 600,000/person and student fee is KRW 300,000/person which include transportation, accommodation, meals, symposium, welcome reception and field excursion for Oct 21-26. If you only attend symposium program not field excursion, you should pay KRW 250,000/person (student: KRW 150,000) which include transportation, accommodation, meals, symposium and welcome reception for Oct 21-23. For the symposium participants who do not overnight at Hoam Faculty House, the registration fee is KRW 100,000/person.

Important Dates are as follows,
September 1st, deadline for a participant list including invited speakers
Please fill out the form that is attached to together with this announcement and then send the email to by September 1st

September 30th, deadline for submission of abstracts
If you are presenting in the plenary session, RG sessions, and poster session, please send an abstract before 30th September 2018.
· An abstract is compulsory for all presenters and each abstract must not exceed 150 words.

Poster Presentation Guidelines
For all the poster presenters, please prepare the poster in A0 size to be placed vertically. Each author presents for 3 minutes with PPT slides. Please prepare PPT Slides and bring with USB stick. Only student posters are qualified for the best poster award.
